QIGONG – a centuries old practice
QiGong (chee gong), as
practiced as an art of self-training, regulates the internal Qi through the integration of body, breath, and mind, while
at the same time blending these function(s) with those of the environment/natural
world. This fluid integration affords us unique opportunities to strengthen our
lives in terms of maintaining health and preventing disease (scholar and
martial qigong),
healing (medical qigong), as well as longevity and enlightenment
(religious qigong). These disciplines have been developed and practiced in
China for centuries, yet their benefits still apply in today’s modern
world.
If you are interested in developing the art and
discipline of qigong, QiGong Studio offers Six
Week Introductory Classes. Students completing the introductory class have
the option of repeating it as often as desired or attending the On-Going
Classes. Each six-week introductory is unique, varying with the mix of students
as well as their needs and interests. This provides an opportunity to deepen
one’s personal experience and understanding of the principles involved. Fee
$60. Introductory sessions scheduled to begin:
Tuesday, November
4 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Thursday,
November 6 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
There is also the opportunity to continue qigong
studies by participating in On-going
QiGong Classes, which do not necessarily focus on specific forms, but
explore deeper qigong principles with their integration into daily living. Signing up for On-going Classes can be by the
month or by the week pending enrollment. Monthly rate dependent upon number of
weeks in month. These classes are offered based upon enrollment:
Tuesday evenings 7:00
– 8:00 p.m.
Thursday evenings 5:30 –
6:30 p.m.
Friday mornings 8:00
– 9:00 a.m.
If any of
these dates and times interest you – either intro or ongoing - please leave
Robert a message at the Studio at 945-4545 by Friday morning of the week before
class is to begin, so class schedules can be finalized. If these
dates and times do not fit your schedule, please contact Robert by e-mail or
call the Studio for other options. Other sessions may become available based
upon interest and enrollment. Thank you!…
UNABLE TO FIT
A QIGONG CLASS INTO YOUR SCHEDULE?
PRIVATE INSTRUCTION AVAILABLE
Often a person’s work or home commitments and/or
schedule preclude availability for class attendance. Private instruction is
offered tailored to your time, individual needs and questions. Call or e-mail
Robert to coordinate day and time. Individual instruction fee is $45 per hour.
WANT TO
EXPERIENCE QIGONG BEFORE ENROLLING IN A CLASS?
To help you answer that question and others, we
offer a monthly Studio Sampler on a
Saturday morning at our downstairs Studio location to provide people with an
opportunity to learn about qigong and to give it a try. The instructor, Robert Leins, will be happy to answer your questions and give you
an idea of his approach to the practice.
This is free to all who are interested. (Flier posted below.)

FROM THE MASSAGE
TABLE
Healing Arts Sessions offered at QiGong Studio
provide an eclectic application of different techniques dependent upon client
need. Therefore, for each client each session may differ from the previous one.
Sometimes just a relaxing massage is appropriate
which may incorporate some Swedish massage, Reiki, and qigong massage.
A therapeutic massage may address specific muscles
or muscle groups. These sessions may include some Swedish massage techniques,
trigger point releases, stretches and holds, and/or deep tissue work.
Qigong massage both tranquilizes the mind and
relaxes the body, beginning at the head, working down the torso, arms and legs
to the feet. This process releases
stagnant qi and smoothes out the qi
flow between body, breath, and mind, vitalizing the shen
or spirit.
Reiki, applied hands on and/or in the ki field around the person, releases ki
that has become trapped, relaxing the body and mind, while releasing emotional
and/or physical discomfort.
Sessions are offered for various lengths of time and
prices:
40 minute
session $35
60 minute
session $55
90 minute
session $70

FROM THE MAT For those interested in Thai
Massage, this massage is actively practiced by client and practitioner on a
floor mat and includes stretches and presses, which open the joints and improve
circulation of qi.
60 minute
session $60
90 minute
session $75

A two-day Reiki Level I
Training is scheduled for:
Saturday, October 18 from 10:00 -
5:00
Sunday,
October 19 from 9:00
- 4:00

REIKI XChange
Saturday,
October 25 4:00 – 6:30 p.m.
$5 participation fee
RSVP appreciated
The intent of the XChange
is to give those of us with Reiki Training an opportunity to ask questions,
share experiences, stretch the mind, review and practice.
The format for the XChange
is informal and relaxed. We spend time chatting, sharing experiences folks have
had in their Reiki practice, and how we are attempting to integrate Reiki into
our daily lives. Occasionally we have specific
discussion topics.
Practice Sessions
We follow with short Reiki practice sessions.
Sometimes we incorporate new techniques into the session, although most times,
it is just an opportunity to work with another practitioner.
Post script: We often go longer than 2 ½ hrs for those who
can stay. Afterwards, we enjoy some snacks and friendly chatter until we
finally have to tear ourselves away and return to the world outside.
INTERESTED IN
REIKI TRAINING? Please contact Vernita Leins, Reiki
Master/Teacher at QiGong Studio. Reiki Level I and other Reiki Levels including
Karunaâ Reiki Trainings are
scheduled upon request. We work together to coordinate class times and dates.
Trainings can be one day, two day, or a few hours spread over a few weeks,
days, evenings or weekends. We use this approach to try an accommodate people’s
schedules and obligations.
REIKI VOLUNTEERS
SOUGHT AT EMMC
Eastern Maine Medical Center Volunteer Services has been piloting a Reiki
Program for those in the rehab unit these past three months, which has been
very successful. Beginning in mid-March, this program will be offered hospital
wide and will require a large group of Reiki practitioners to implement it. If
you are interested in applying to volunteer for this program, call EMMC
Volunteer Services Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. 973-7850
To be eligible as a volunteer, you must complete
their volunteer application including references, have an interview, attend a
hospital volunteer orientation, provide a copy of your highest Reiki
Certificate, and participate in an orientation specifically for the Reiki
Program. Certain health requirements must also be met.
Providing the influencing benefits of Reiki is
rewarding for both the practitioner and the patient. You can volunteer for as
little as a couple hours a week or more, depending upon your availability.
